Guided Moose Hunts Alaska

Guided Moose Hunts Alaska

Exclusive Moose Hunts Innoko Wildlife Refuge

This hunt is out of McGrath, Alaska in Game Management Unit 21A. The Innoko Wildlife Refuge is 3,850,000 acres or approximately 6000 square miles. I have exclusive areas on the Refuge where I am the only guide allowed to hunt. This is some of the best moose hunting country that Alaska has to offer. The moose population is strong. Due to increasing moose numbers and a harvestable surplus, Fish & Game extended the non-resident season by five days a few years ago.

Where We Hunt in Alaska

We hunt the river from boats with either a prop or jet engine, making it possible to cover many miles a day in search of that trophy bull. Most hunting will be done close to the river with minimal walking. In the fall, the moose come out of the hills and follow the river corridor to their rutting/wintering ground. Outside of the brushy, river corridor the ground is low and swampy which keeps the moose close to the river. Calling and raking brush is extremely successful here. Each guide is well experienced in tracking and calling moose. You are in for a treat when you see an excited moose coming in to you during the rut!

Alaska Moose Hunting Season<br>Innoko Wildlife Refuge

Alaska Moose Hunting Season
Innoko Wildlife Refuge

The moose season within the Innoko Wildlife Area runs 21 days, so we divide the season into two 11-day hunts (9 days of hunting) to allow for flying days. The first half of the season we do one-on-one hunts, and the second half we do two-on-one hunts. This optimizes your chances for success. We only take a small number of hunters, with each camp having a maximum of two 1x1 hunters early and four 2x1 hunters late.

Alaska Moose Hunting Packages

Alaska Moose Hunting Packages

We are in a very remote area and the logistics are hard, so they are expensive. We offer two different guided moose hunts:

Option 1 - Our Tent camps hunt will be in sturdy guide tents within the refuge. This allows us to easily move a camp each year to an area we've scouted.  This hunt is fully guided and outfitted. We have two separate tent camps, each with two guides, a cook/packer.

Option 2 - Our Cabin hunt will be in a small, comfortable cabin we recently built . This is a rare opportunity to hunt a wildlife refuge from a cabin. Federal wildlife refuges do not allow permanent structures of any kind, however we secured a piece of private land that joins the refuge.  This hunt is fully guided and outfitted with two guides, a cook/packer.

After The Moose Hunt

We offer brown bear hunts and moose hunts at no additional charge after you harvest your trophy moose.

A big advantage to hunting with Alaska Guide & Outfitting Service is the fact we own our airplanes and don’t have to rely on someone else to fly you in and out of the bush. After harvesting your moose, there are also grizzly, black bear, wolf, and wolverine in the area that can be taken at no additional charge (tags must be purchased before the hunt.) All tags for this area are over-the-counter.

Innoko Wildlife Refuge

Innoko Wildlife Refuge

Situated within the remote wilderness of Western Alaska, The Innoko Wildlife Refuge is the traditional home of the Athabaskan people. The wilderness holds slow moving rivers, black spruce forests and a variety of other terrain. The refuge was established in 1980 and is the fifth largest wildlife refuge in the United States, providing habitat for a diverse range of wildlife, including some of the biggest trophy moose in the world.
